Richard Johnson Elementary is excited to offer a Drum & Sm'algyax Club, taught by Mr. Gamaas! This club will focus on drum protocol with a thunder drum routine. and conversational Sm'algyax lessons to get students excited about learning Sm'algyax! The class will be held on Tuesdays from 3:00-4:00 starting on January 9th. Only 10 spots will be available (on a first-come, first-served basis), and permission slips will be sent home today. We are excited to announce the start of the AISD Hunter Safety Course for next semester! This club will be open to all students in grades 5th-12th who want to participate in the State of Alaska Hunter Safety Course, free of charge. Parents and community members will be able to attend the in-person course free of charge, but if they wish to complete the online course, they may be required to pay a small fee (depending on availability). Here are some additional details: -Students in grades 5th-8th will attend an in-person course which will meet Wednesdays 6:00 PM-7:30 PM. These weekly in-person courses will also be open to parents, and members of the community. -We will have two make-up Saturday sessions for students who fall behind or miss sessions. We will be working through a workbook with the goal of finishing the book by the beginning of April. -Students in high school and community members can do the in-person course OR attend an online self-paced course (covering the same material as the in-person course) but can be completed at their own pace. -All participants who complete either course and pass the test will then attend an in-person field day run by an ADFG instructor this spring.
