AISD is seeking an original logo design for The Watchmen Program.
Who are The Watchmen of Metlakatla?
The Watchmen of Metlakatla look out for the well-being of all. They are certified in Mental Health First-Aid, they mediate conflict, and they are committing to being a part of the solution. The Watchmen Program is in collaboration with our local, state, and national suicide prevention programs and resources. This Watchmen logo will be used for the community to identify these individuals.
Inspiration:
The Healing Heart Totem Pole, located in Metlakatla and created by Stan Marsden*, inspired a journey towards healing together. As Willard Jackson stated in the film about this pole, "Carved from the Heart": "That's what the pole means to me today, I'm here to lift you up and share your grief."
The Watchmen Program (and the logo) would like to honor the value of lifting each other up and sharing our grief.
Details:
The winner of this logo will be determined by an art committee, led by John Hudson & Naomi Leask. If you are interested in joining this committee, please reach out to Chelsea Martinez.
Logo contestants must be a Metlakatla Indian Community Member, and the contest is open to both students and adults. The winner will receive $500.
Artwork must be received by October 11th. Please submit your artwork to Chelsea Martinez (cmartinez@aisdk12.org). Please submit your design in .png or .jpeg format; vector files are preferred but not required. Please also include a short paragraph with the inspiration for your design.
*Posted with permission from the family of Stan Marsden
