We will be hosting the next regional DDF meet on December 12th and 13th, and we need volunteers!
Students from six teams across Southeast Alaska will be arriving in our community to compete, and we'll need a LOT of judges to help out. Whether you've done it before or don't even know what DDF is (it's Drama, Debate, and Forensics), we would love to have you!
If you are interested in volunteering to judge, please click on the link below to fill out the judging interest form:
https://forms.gle/o6qBNb2DZmf5SMqG8
If you are interested in volunteering in other ways (such as providing snacks for the judges' lounge, fundraising, or helping with organizing ballots), please click on the the link below to fill out the volunteer interest form:

We will be having a judge & volunteer training on Thursday, December 11th at 6:00 pm in Ms. Pike's classroom at the elementary school. All judges need to attend this training, as there are some changes from previous years.
If you have any questions, please contact Chaya Pike (cpike@aisdk12.org) or Owen Fulton (ofulton@aisdk12.org). Thank you for helping us host a fantastic meet!

For example: 1 pepperoni and 1 sausage and 2 cups of cheese equals 1PSC2 (Representing a whole pizza and a balanced equation)!
The students made the dough from scratch, and put on their own toppings. Thank you to AISD Food Services for allowing us to use their ovens, and to Mr. Weller for the fun (and delicious) lesson! Luk'wil aam dzapsm, everyone!

All of them! Mr. Weber, Mrs. Fuerst, Mr Walker, Ms. Smiley, just to name a few.

What is your current employment title?
Traditional Culture Coordinator
What would you like to share about your time at Annette Island School District?
Growing up enriched in culture definitely made me the Ts'msyen woman I am today. Sharing our culture and Sm'algyax has really helped me in my job finding others to come share their Alaska Native culture. Very grateful for my subsistence knowledge from my parents, aunts and uncles which I able to bring to our head start classrooms and families!
Certificates, Degrees, or Achievements you’d like to share?
Bachelor's degree in 2004, currently working on masters degree in education and teaching certification for Sm'algyax.
Who is a teacher you would like to give a shout out to and their role in your success?
Mrs. Donna Ackerman and Mr. Bill Ulmer. Mrs. Ackerman definitely gave me a taste of leadership in teaching which have come in handy with leading my Ts'msyen dance group when it comes to fundraising. Grateful to Mr. Ulmer science knowledge, it really made me love and appreciate science and helped me chose classes for my college days!
What advice would you give to current students?
If you want to plan for your future in vocational school or college, save as much of your money as possible, pfds, paychecks all help but it amazed me how quickly it goes (to the) first year of college. Apply for as many scholarships as possible too, every little bit helps you reach your dream!

Please introduce yourself!
Aaron Brendible, son of Charlene Jimenez and Paul T. Brendible and of Raven clan.
What is your current employment title?
Engineering Manager - Cockpit Electronics, Toyota Motor N.A.
What would you like to share about your time at Annette Island School District?
Community. If it wasn't for the community and family support cheering me on throughout my undergrad and now professional career, I wouldn't be where I'm at today. Additionally, as you're going through the journey of figuring out what you're going to do in life, you think about the community and how you want to make them proud.
Certificates, Degrees, or Achievements you’d like to share?
Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Go Eagles!
Who is a teacher you would like to give a shout out to and their role in your success?
Mr. Salisbury always reminded me that I had more potential. Anytime you think you're at your maximum, dig deep to find that extra %10. I still carry that to this day. Mr. and Mrs. Walker, made school fun and gave the perception of teachers are approachable and "one of us". Great people!
What advice would you give to current students?
Be kind and respectful, don't forget the values your elders and parents instilled in you. You're carrying your community with you. When things get tough, ask for help, don't be too proud. Navigating the world after MHS will be tough, but life is precious so enjoy it! Don't forget your goals, let them be your north star.
