What would you like to share about your time at Annette Island School District?
AISD has had a great impact on my life; from learning Sm’algyax in elementary school, which helped me connect with my culture and community, to participating in academic decathlon in high school, which challenged me academically and built my confidence. I’m grateful for all the opportunities I received from AISD and excited to see the District continue to grow.

I’d like to give a shout out to Ms. Anderson! She played a huge role in my success at AISD by making sure I was prepared for life after graduation.
What advice would you give to current students?
Change is okay! Your happiness is important. It’s okay to transfer schools, to change jobs, or to make that move. Do what feels best.

Please introduce yourself!
Aaron Brendible, son of Charlene Jimenez and Paul T. Brendible and of Raven clan.
What is your current employment title?
Engineering Manager - Cockpit Electronics, Toyota Motor N.A.
What would you like to share about your time at Annette Island School District?
Community. If it wasn't for the community and family support cheering me on throughout my undergrad and now professional career, I wouldn't be where I'm at today. Additionally, as you're going through the journey of figuring out what you're going to do in life, you think about the community and how you want to make them proud.
Certificates, Degrees, or Achievements you’d like to share?
Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Go Eagles!
Who is a teacher you would like to give a shout out to and their role in your success?
Mr. Salisbury always reminded me that I had more potential. Anytime you think you're at your maximum, dig deep to find that extra %10. I still carry that to this day. Mr. and Mrs. Walker, made school fun and gave the perception of teachers are approachable and "one of us". Great people!
What advice would you give to current students?
Be kind and respectful, don't forget the values your elders and parents instilled in you. You're carrying your community with you. When things get tough, ask for help, don't be too proud. Navigating the world after MHS will be tough, but life is precious so enjoy it! Don't forget your goals, let them be your north star.

Here's what Matthew had to say:
"On September 30th, I traveled to Minneapolis with a group of roughly 15 people for the AISES Nationals Science Fair. I was invited to this because I got 2nd place at the regional one in Juneau. At both, I presented a research poster that I worked on while doing the RASOR Program during my junior year, on the European Green Crab. I did not place at the National event, but one team from Alaska did. We also attended the College and Career fair in Minneapolis, and even attended a final pow-wow as our closing celebration. I would like to thank Ian Hudson and Kari Lanphier for all of their help in the project! As well as the UAS Rasor program."
Great work, Matthew! We're so proud of you!

Recently, RJES Music Teacher Danielle Koch approached Secondary Shop Teacher Tadd Yliniemi about the possibility of creating tables for the RJES xylophones and metallophones. He came up with a brilliant idea of repurposing desk legs from desks no longer in use, and having one of his classes make tops to fit the instruments!
A few weeks ago, one of his classes delivered the tables to the RJES Music room, and a few days later, the class that created the tables came to see their work in action, learning how to play them.
The impact of these tables in the Music Room is huge: now students can stand to play instead of having to sit on their knees in front of them, and the tables allow for great space saving in our room. T'oya̱xsut 'nüüsm to Tadd and his students for making these desks, and for personally delivering them to the RJES Music Room!
