If you haven't already, please consider purchasing a DDF (Drama, Debate, and Forensics) hoodie to support recent graduate Evyn V. and our DDF Coaches who are currently in Richmond, VA at the National Speech & Debate Association Championship! 🎭
The sweatshirts feature artwork created by recent MHS graduate Elizabeth A. The design depicts a "supernatural creature" with three heads, representing the "three heads" of Drama, Debate & Forensics competition.
The sweatshirts also feature the phrase "Ts'uusga Da'al Gaaka," the Smalgyax translation of our team motto "small but mighty."
The translation for this phrase was provided by MHS's cultural studies teacher Gamaas Bolton.

Check this out! Logan W. participated in the Rural Alaska Students for One Health Research (RASOR) program through the University of Alaska Southeast Sitka! To satisfy his research project requirement, he was an intern for the Metlakatla Indian Community Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Logan chose to research the impact of recreation beach debris in several popular beaches on Annette Islands Reserve. He picked Front Beach in Metlakatla, as well as the Hospital Area Colby Creek beach in Tamgas Bay. He hypothesized that the beach in town would have more recreational debris and litter than the beach further out of town. His hypothesis was correct, and he found much more recreational debris on Front Beach. Logan presented his findings via Zoom to UAS and Sealaska staff, as well as educators and environmental professionals from Southeast Alaska. Logan satisfied his program requirements and received college credits!
Overall, the most debris found was plastic nets and a probable solution would be more access to areas to dispose of nets or to switch to biodegradable or natural material nets!
Luk'wil aam dzabn, Logan!
