Happy first week of school! We hope everyone has had a wonderful start to this year.
AISD has many resources available on our website for our families and community. We would like to encourage our community to visit a few of the newer pages on our site, which are available in the blue button bar on the center of the home page (www.aisdk12.org), or at the links listed below:
We have a new page called "Get Involved at AISD" which offers ways to help find solutions, and ways to contact our staff. Our staff, students, and families have been trained to use this page along with our new form, which was presented at orientation, for reporting any concerns about bullying:
https://bit.ly/aisd-get-involved
We also have a "Family Resources" page which includes a list of various resources in our community (and beyond) for both students and families:

Annette Island School District is excited to announce that we have received the 2024 GCI Suicide Prevention Grant.
Please be on the lookout for what the Watchmen Campaign will be bringing to our community. This funding will be used for empowering community members to utilize state and national resources and two family events!

RJ Elementary Families,
Class placements can be seen in PowerSchool, or feel free to call the school. Please note that 3-5th graders will have multiple teachers delivering instruction. Our third graders will have Ms. Schutz for math, Ms. Henry for language arts and Ms. Pike for science and social studies. Fourth and fifth will continue to have Ms. Patterson, Mr. Stemp, and Ms. Pike for their core subjects. Kinder through second-grade students may receive core reading instruction in a different classroom to best fit their individual needs.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about our evolving instructional model. I look forward to seeing everyone tonight at Back to School Night.

Metlakatla Families,
It is hard for me to believe that I am starting my fourteenth year with the Annette Island School District. This will, however, be my first year as the RJ Elementary Principal and I am thrilled for the opportunity to serve the community in this new and exciting way. Metlakatla shined bright this summer, and I hope that everyone was able to engage in some of the amazing activities this beautiful island has to offer.
As we make the transition into the new school year, I would like to emphasize my commitment to this community and your children. Communication between home and school is vital, and while social media plays a role in our technology-driven lives, it should never serve as a substitute for a phone call or face-to-face contact. My number one job is to be here for you and I look forward to supporting you as your child grows and thrives at RJ Elementary. Building a strong community starts with the children, and I am truly honored to be a part of their lives.
We will be sending out more information as the week progresses. I am looking forward to seeing everyone on Friday for our Back to School Night.
Shannon Hudson
RJES Principal
