Annette Island School District is honored to announce that Native Art Teacher John Hudson III received a Distinguished Educator Award from the Our Cultural Landscape Culturally Responsive Education Conference offered by Sealaska Heritage Institute at UAS Juneau! This year's conference theme was Connecting Culture, Community, and Curriculum. This event provides educators and administrators with a deep understanding of culturally responsive education and equips them to transform their classrooms, pedagogy, and curriculum to fully support all students’ success. The Distinguished Educator Award recognizes an educator’s intentional weaving of ways of knowing throughout lessons and classrooms that reflect our students, through place- based and culturally relevant beliefs and practices, while reinforcing our students’ capabilities of achievement. We are immensely proud of John's incredible contributions to our school district, community, and the world, and are so thankful to have him on our staff. On October 18th and 19th, the MHS Drama, Debate & Forensics team traveled to Skagway to compete in the 2nd regional meet of the 2024-2025 season. We had two students final in their events: Lacey M. finaled in Humorous Interpretation (HI) and came in 3rd Place. Gabrielle S. finaled in Extemporaneous Speaking (EXT) and came in 5th Place. She is the first student in the history of our school to final in this event!
