The RJES after school Math Club supports the work students and teachers do every day to build math skills! The first learning goal for grades 3 to 5 is showing mastery of multiplication and division facts. Thank you to our dedicated paras and the students who are doing the hard work necessary for growth. On Wednesday, the RJES Space Club met with Claire Mallon, an aerospace engineer who works on satellites! 🛰 After some uncertainty, we were able to establish the internet connection and make it happen, and we're so glad we did! Claire told the students all about how satellites are built and how many different people with many different jobs work together to build, launch, and monitor them. The students were then able to ask Claire questions about both satellites and space. Today, Mrs. Henry's 3rd Grade class met with School Counselor Mr. Joe to learn about what makes a good teammate! They practiced climbing an "ice wall" while connected to one another, while an ice monster moved around them. Students had to solve problems, communicate, and use teamwork skills to ascend the wall. If a peer "fell," they had to hold on tight and work together to bring them back up. Afterward, they talked about what their team did well and how they used their teamwork skills! Attention RJES Families: Introducing the RJ Elementary Language Explorers Club! This club is open to all 3rd-5th graders and will be held Mondays & Fridays 2:45-3:45pm starting on 2/6. Students will participate in a series of games, puzzles, and scavenger hunts to learn a new language, Esperanto! Research shows that learning a second language boosts problem solving, critical thinking, and listening skills, as well as improving memory, concentration, and multi-tasking. Want to join? Esperanto was created in 1887 with the goal of creating a universal second language to increase communication for all people regardless of country or nationality. Attention Richard Johnson Families: RJ Elementary is proud to announce the creation of the RJ Elementary Space Explorers Club! This club will meet from 3:45-5:15 every week and is open to a limited number of K-5 participants. Students K-2 will attend space club on Mondays and 3-5 will attend on Wednesdays. Students will explore the vastness of space with their imagination and use science problem solving skills to solve weekly puzzles and challenges in space. Some of our planned lessons include: -Talk to a real life jet propulsion engineer about how rockets work. -Create spaceships out of high tech cutting edge materials (cardboard). -Meet alien species (puppets) who are experiencing conflicts and try and solve them. -Use a new planetarium to travel the stars and look for areas to discover together.
