If you look in the lobby of the elementary school you will see a new addition, the first grade Little Library. When Mr. Mike's class read the Geodes book A Library of Our Own, one of the kids suggested that they build the elementary school's own Little Library.
According to Mr. Mike:
"I contacted Tadd Yliniemi, a teacher at the high school shop, and asked if his students could make one. He agreed and about a month later, two students from the high school, Carter Marsden and Dylan Nelson, showed up with a beautifully hand made little library."
Mr. Mike's students were beyond excited to see their idea come to life.
Mr. Mike's students picked out some books and stocked the library. They chose books by their favorite author Mo Willems. Meanwhile, Mr. Mike's 1st graders are brainstorming ideas on how to decorate the library and are continuing to grow a personal connection with books.
Mr. Mike said,
"The idea of a Little Library is to encourage a love of reading and to participate in a community culture of literacy. Everyone in the community is welcome to participate. The feeling that reading can be interactive, and something that everyone enjoys, is part of the elementary school building's mindset of, 'Yes, I am a reader too!'"
A special big thank you to Tadd and his class for the wonderful little library!
