Dear Parents and Students,

It is with pleasure that I welcome you to a new school year at Metlakatla High School!  I am looking forward to a great year, and I encourage every student to take full advantage of the numerous academic, vocational, athletic and extra-curricular opportunities that are available to each of you.  Every year high school graduates face higher and higher expectations as they transition to future vocational or academic endeavors.  Higher grades and higher SAT scores seem to be the norm for most colleges and universities as competition for college admissions intensifies. Employers are also increasing expectations for potential employees as the world moves toward a digital society and a global economy.

With the allocation of Alaska State funds, our high school campus will be completely remodeled for the 2010 -2011 school year.  This improvement will near completion by the end of the current school year.  During the summer of 2010, we will replace our gym floor and the locker rooms will also be upgraded. This will make all events in the gym more enjoyable.  These improvements are designed to provide greater support to our students and their increasing demands.

School-wide implementation of web-based software (Powerschool) provides parents and students on-line access to individual updates regarding grades, attendance and upcoming assignments. To access this information, parents are assigned an activation code for their individual student(s) in September.  We have a great staff at MHS and, working together with parents and students, we look forward to the new challenges and expectations the future brings!
