Richard Johnson Elementary

The R.J. Elementary received “Blue Ribbon School” in 2007, only 1 of 2 schools in Alaska. The Blue Ribbon School Program honors both private and public elementary, middle, and high schools that are academically superior or demonstrates dramatic gains in student achievement. They have met AYP from 2003 to 2008, except in 2004, which they did not meet AYP.  The building was built September 11, 1988. There are 150 students attending R.J. Elementary, 17 teachers, 1 principal, 1 administrative assistant, 1 media specialist, and 5 aides. Last year the playground was dedicated to Wilma Baines Chahim, a beloved district employee and community member.
