8 January - 14 January

  • Day #1 1-8-2008 Lesson the class will be taking notes and discussing REM and NREM. The class should also be able to identify the three major theories as to why we have dreams.
  • Day #2 1-9-2008 Lesson the class will be bocken into two groups and assigned two different projects. One group will be in charge of completing a a survey of the school on sleep habits and the other group will be setting up a class meditation session. The rest of the class will be spent discussing night terrors and other sleep problems. Students should understand the link between sleep habits and heart disease.
  • Day #3 1-10-2008 Lesson the class will be finishing the chapter 6 notes in class today. The class will be discussing hypnosis and meditation. The class should understand what these are and the science behind them. Students should also understand why they work in solving some problems. The rest of the hour will be used to work on the project we started working on yesterday.
  • Day #4 1-11-2008 One group will start class be explaining the results of the sleep survey they conducted over the last two days. After that the other group will be teaching us how meditation works and giving a demonstration for the class to participate in.

15 January - 21 January

  • Day #6 1-14-2008 Lesson the class will be presenting their  projects in class today because their were too many people absent last wek to do their projects. After completing their projects we will be studying as a class for the chapter 6 test.
  • Day #7 1-15-2008 Lesson the class will be taking their chapter 6 test in class. If the they have time after completing the test they can start their chapter 7 questions.

  • Day #8 1-16-2008 Lesson the class will start taking notes and discussing chapter #7. The first thng we will be looking at is behaviorism. The class should understand that our brain learns through the use of processes. Students will also be assigned chapter 7 book work.
  • Day #9 1-17-2008 Lesson the class will be taking notes and discussing the four different types of conditioning. The class should understand the basis for each theory and why they are relevent to understanding the learning process.

22 January - 28 January

  • Day #11 1-21-2008 Lesson the class will be taking notes and discussing classical conditioning. The class should understand who Pavlov was and his experiments in regard to classical conditioning. They should also be able to explain the idea of stimulus response inregard to learning.
  • Day #12 1-22-2008 Lesson the class will be continue its discussion of classical conditioning. The class will be recalling the little experiment we performed in class yesterday with the lemon to explain the concept of stimulus response as it relates to learning.
  • Day #13 1-23-2008 Lesson the class will be taking notes and discussing BF Skinner and his theory in regard to reinforcment. The class should understand how a behavior can be reinforced to create the desired result.

  • Day #14 1-23-2008 Lesson the class will be discussing their little experiment form last night involving reinforcing, shaping and chainging. The class will spend the hour explaining how they saw or made these things happen in their lives.
  • Day #15 1-24-2008 Lesson the class will continue discussing the Harrison Bergeron Article from yesterday. We will then be taking notes and discussing how variable schedules work and how the schdules will help produce the desired behaviors we are looking for.

29 January - 4 February

  • Day #17 1-29-2008 Lesson the class will be discussing socail learning. they should be able to explain how social learning works and give examples of social learning in their lives. We will also be playing a short game to demonstrate shaping.
  • Day #18 1-30-2008 As the class only got through the shaping experiment yesterday we will be discussing socail learning. they should be able to explain how social learning works and give examples of social learning in their lives.
  • Day #19 1-31-2008 Lesson the class will be finishing the Chapter #7 notes by discussing phobias and cognitive maps. The class will be asked to do a small demonstration on how cognitive maps work and hand it in.
  • Day #20 2-1-2008 Lesson the class will be taking part in an experiment I can't talk about till after its preformed and talking about it in class. The students should be able to explain and understand  how social learning takes place in their everday lives.

5 February - 11 February

  • Day #21 2-4-2008 Lesson the class will be discussing chemical influences on learning. They should be able to explain the difference between a depressent and a stimulant. They should also able to start explaining how they may impact learning.

  • Day #23 2-6-2008 Lesson the class will be trying two different mini experiments that look at memory. The class should be able to identify how we use multisensory techniques to acquire information.
  • Day #24 2-7-2008 Lesson the class will be doing an experiment in class that will show them how our memories are not perfect. We will then initiat a discussion about how this can cause problems for us especially in regard to gossip.
  • Day #25 2-8-2008 Lesson the class will be doing two small experiments that will teach them the concept of positive and negative transfer of learing. They should be able to explain how learing can be transfered in their daily lives.

12 February - 18 February

  • Day #26 2-11-2008 Lesson the class will be discussing and taking notes on how our brains organize information using schemas. We will do an exercise in class where students create their own schemas. Students should understand how schemas are created.
  • Day #27 2-12-2008 Lesson the class will be doing two experiments if their is time testing their short term memory. They should see that when we use more than one sense (elaboration) and how our short term memory inhibits our recall of things.
  • Day #28 2-13-2008 Lesson the class will be working on 2 short class demonstrations in regard to memory. Students should understand how vivid events have more associative properties. They should also be able to explain how mnemonic devices can be used to remeber and store information.
  • Day #29 2-14-2008 Lesson the class will be catching up on notes and completing an inclass assignment.

19 February - 25 February

  • Day #31 2-18-2008 Lesson the class will be taking notes and discussing overlearnering recall and recongition. The class should understand the impact each has on learning. If time permits we will start discussing short term memory and the class will complete a short exersice.
  • Day #32 2-19-2008 Lesson the class will have a work day in class. They need to bring their missing assignments to class and finish them.
  • Day #33 2-20-2008 Lesson the class will be taking notes and discussing amnesia. The class should be able to explain how memory is affected and what can cause amnesa. They should have a deeper understanding of short term memory.
  • Day #34 2-21-2008 Lesson the class will be discussing and taking notes. they should understand the how our brains and computers operate simularly. They should also understand how information is stored in a computer using 0s and 1s.
  • Day #35 2-22-2008 Lesson the class will be having a work day in class to get caught up in all of their class work.

  • Day #36 2-25-2008 Lesson the class will be finishing chapter 8 notes. The class will discussing different types of memory like iconic and acustic memory. Student should recognize where this information is stored.
  • Day #37 2-26-2008 Lesson the class will start watching the movie a Beautiful Mind. The class should pay attention to the how he copes with high intelligence. Students will also need to pick up the on his symptoms of schizophrenia. This movie is based on the true life events of John Nash a noble prize winner.
  • Day #38 2-27-2008 Lesson the class will continue the movie a Beautiful Mind. They will need to be able to explain John and his wife's reaction to the news that he has schizophrenia. They need to understand that he actually thinks these things happened to him and now he has to learn a whole new reality.

  • Day #47 3-11-2008 Lesson the class will be watching several steaming video clips that have do with intelligence. The class will then be discussing the topics of each clip. They will also be taking an online intelligence test through the Mensa society.

  • Day #55-59 3-31-2008 to 4-4-2008 The class will be watching  film that Scotty has tevod. The discovery miniseries explores the human body and introduces many new ideas and concepts about our inherited traits. These new ideas will allow us create new discussions and take our existing discussions and move in new directions.

8 April - 14 April

  • Day #60-64 4-7-2008 to 4-11-2008 Lesson the class will be working in class on the Human development project. The class will be broken into groups and be required to team teach the class on their section of human development. Each student is also required to turn in the their homework for each chapter.
  • Day#65-67 4-14-2008 to 4-16-2008 The class will be watching the film Tuesdays with Morie. The focus of the conversations will center around dying. The students should be able to explain the stages of grieving and dying.

  • Day #70-74 4-20-2008 to 4-24-2008 Lesson the class will be completing group presentations teaching the class about their chapters. Students should be taking notes and paying close attention to what the groups are telling them because this information will be on a unit test next week.

29 April - 5 May

  • Day #77 5-5-2008 The class will start taking notes over chapter #16. The class will be introduced to the work frustration. We will discuss what causes frustrataion and how it manifests. Students should be able to idenify ways to deal with frustration and be prepared to use their understanding of frustration to discuss stress tommorrow.
  • Day #78 5-6-2008 Lesson the class will be discussing stress. Students should understand how stress manifests out of frustration. Students should also be able to identify the physical and psychological charictoristics of stress. Student should be aware of the health concerns related to stress as well.
  • Day #79 5-7-2008 Lesson the class will be taking notes on good and bad stress. Students should be able to identify that good stress allows us to meet goals and accomplish things in life. Bad stress normally manifests into physical problems when it is not confronted.
  • Day #80 5-8-2008 Lesson the class will be taking notes and discussing how people can cope with stress. Students should understand that you cannot aviod stress we can only reduce and deal with it. We will also begin to discuss the use of drugs and alcohol as people think they relieve stress.
  • Day #81 5-9-2008 Lesson the class will be discussing alcohol. The class will be looking at alcohol's strange place in American culture. We will also compare it to other cultures. Students should recognize that alcohol is a part of American culture and that there are rules and negative side affects to the use of this drug. Students should also be able to explain how our cultural beliefs of alcohol are affecting our psychie.

6 May - 12 May

  • Day #82 5-12-2008 Lesson the class will be discussing and taking notes about the other drugs. We will classify the drugs as uppers and downers and open up the conversation to other drugs that are normally not incuded in lists like caffine and other over the counter drugs that are thought to be safe. The class should be able to explain how these drugs can create problems when used in conjuction with stress.
  • Day #83 5-13-2008 Lesson the class will finish discussing chapter 16 with a discussion about how drugs are misconcieved in American culture as a way of relieving stress. Students should be able to recognize that drugs do not relieve stress and that stress need to be dealt with in safe constructive ways.
