Happy March! Spring Break is past, and we are now heading towards Spring, with it’s longer days. Longer days mean more time to play outside!
In counseling we are focusing on being healthy –eating healthy, balanced meals, and the importance of exercising. Using the USDA’s (United States Department of Agriculture) website at MyPlate.gov, students are learning about the 5 food groups — vegetables, fruits, dairy, grain, and protein, and the importance of each one in their diets. Take some time to explore this website, as it is loaded with great information. Have fun watching the videos with your children.
The first week of April is State testing time in our school. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will take the AMP test (Alaska Measures of Progress) on their Ipads. In preparation, the students have been taking short tests to get used to the new format and technology. The 4th graders must also take the Science SBA (standard based assessment), using pencil and paper. The kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders will again take the TerraNova test, with pencil and paper. It is important that students get to bed early and eat a good breakfast before these tests. As you know, Richard Johnson earned a five star rating last year, and the students’ performances in their state tests played a role in that. Let’s keep up the good work!
